To avoid dark design patterns means to:
- Be situation based – do not copy & paste everything everywhere. Build tools that make sense in the specific place and situation.
- Friction – don’t spam your community like spotify does on Facebook with the music you’re listening to
- Avoid unexpected results – don’t do it like LinkedIn, that grabs your address book and goes through the list with you, to help you find persons related to you. The first step is fine but don’t force a user to invite all the people not found in the second step!
- Easy in, difficult out – don’t make it impossible to unsubscribe an abo or newsletter subscription
